Retired FBI Special Agent (1985 to 2007)
Over ten years as a “street agent” working interstate property crimes. Developed an expertise as an undercover agent utilizing various undercover scenarios and techniques. Organized and coordinated several Safe Streets Task Forces.
Two years as Supervisor of the Atlanta Violent Crime/Government Reservations/Property Crimes Squad. The scope of investigative responsibility included theft from interstate shipment violations and interstate transportation of stolen property, to include stolen motor vehicles. Supervised multiple Safe Streets Task Forces.
Five years as Supervisor of the Atlanta Organized Crime Squad. The scope of investigative responsibility included Asian, Russian, and traditional (LCN/Mafia) organized criminal activity. Numerous noteworthy cases in each of the above listed areas were successfully prosecuted, to include Asian human trafficking and an LCN matter of major national significance.
In addition to serving as Supervisor for two different squads, served as the Atlanta Division Crisis Management Coordinator for five years. Created detailed crisis response plans and training scenarios for potential threats such as an aircraft hijacking or an uprising at the U.S. Penitentiary. Established command posts for all major events.
Six years as Supervisory Special Agent/Regional Coordinator of the Southeast Region Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. Organized a first of its kind in the United States Asset/Forfeiture training conference for five hundred state and local police officers with all instruction and funding provided by the Department of Justice. Received the Attorney General’s Commitment to Excellence Award.
Along with the Atlanta US Attorney’s Office, initiated the Violent Offender Rapid Reaction Team to address violent repeat offenders committing armed robberies and carjackings, using federal statutes to prosecute these individuals. This was the first attempt of its kind by the federal government. The success of the program was recognized by the US Attorney General and the Vice President of the United States. Received the “Just Works” and the “National Performance Review” awards.
Provided training for law enforcement officers from five countries in the African region with emphasis on gathering and processing intelligence. This was a joint effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Justice. Training conducted at the Law Enforcement Regional Training Center in Ghana, Africa.
Following Retirement from the FBI, served as Audit Consultant for over seven years for a major insurance company. Conducted internal investigations into financial related matters involving inappropriate activity and other misconduct and violations of company policy. Provided training for newly hired personnel in interviewing and interrogation techniques. Regularly interacted with law enforcement.
Prior to FBI employment, served as a police officer/detective/polygraph examiner for nearly ten years in West Virginia. Worked a variety of cases to include homicides, sexual assaults, armed robberies, kidnapping, and theft investigations. Conducted over 3,500 polygraph examinations. Extensive experience in interviewing and interrogation.
Graduated from the Keeler Polygraph Institute, Chicago, Illinois.
Completed multiple courses at Reid College, Chicago, Illinois. Extensive training in interview and interrogation techniques, behavioral analysis, and body language interpretation.
Prior to serving as a police officer, served as Personnel and Security Director for a Coal Mining and Sales company for two years. Responsible for all aspects of interviewing and hiring potential employees. Also handled disciplinary matters, workers compensation issues, as well union/labor relations.
